I am having problems with my 1976 Johnson 55hp. 55EL76. The problem is is that it will not idle as if it is not getting enough gas. I have cleaned and rebuilt the two carbs myself more than once, everything but letting them soak in cleaner. I have taken apart the brand new fuel pump, inspected it and it was fine. To keep the engine running I have to constantly hit the choke every few seconds. May there be a problem with my electrical system or should I take my carbs to a mechanic to get someone else to clean them? Also, it may be backfiring. And if it is, it is doing it a lot. Thanks for any help
Other miscellaneous things that I've done is change out the exhaust housing, lower unit and head gaskets. Also, the engine has only 100 hours on it and pushes 140 psi on the compression test.
