I was just wondering why it is when i turn the key to start my motor it only spins the engine over then stops. It does this every time. Shouldn't the starter just keep spinning if i keep the key turn to the start position? Why does it just turn over and stop? The engine fires up eventually and runs good...it's just the starter engaging intermittently. Spins over fast (Fully charged Battery).. Anyone???

are you saying that the starter just stop running? or that the starter disengages the flywheel. the just stops running sounds like an electrical problem. the disengaging, is normal, because the engine is trying to start, and when if does it spins faster than the starter, and that disengages the gears.

Well it engages with the flywheel and spins the engine over but if it doesnt start right up it disengages and i have to turn the key again. I'm used to being able to turn the starter over constantly until i let off the key. Not sure if i'm having a problem or if this is just the way it supposed to be. Thanks

the starter is driven buy a centrifugal clutch (bendix). when the motor tries to start the flywheel moves faster than the starter gear, throwing the gear out. is you primer clicking when you turn the key on and push in on the key? are you using it when trying to start?
