Need Help! 2005 Johnson 90hp VRO Pump Question

Hi all,

I recently purchased a used 2005 90hp Johnson J90PLSOA and when the old owners were removing the vro oiling system to take the outboard off the boat they broke the plastic nipple that connects the oil line on the VRO pump. I have been looking around for a replacement part (has number 126270 on it), but everywhere I have looked you have to buy the whole new pump and I don't really want to spend $300 on a new pump for a part that would probably cost less than $50. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do? Or does anyone have a broken VRO pump that they are willing to sell just the end piece with the oil nipple and 4 wire plug. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

Thanks,
Rodney

Can you thread it to accept a brass nipple?

I thought about drilling and tapping a brass nipple, but I am worried that It won't be air tight or not being air tight over time.

Thanks,
Rodney

Sound good I will try and look for one. Also if anyone has a bad VRO pump with a 4 wire plug I will buy it just for the end piece with the nipple for the oil line.

Thanks,

Rodney, I have a '98 Johnny 150HP, and really like the OMS oil injection system.

If you can thread the pump to accept a brass nipple, put some glue on the threads, and it should easily be vaporproof.

Thanks I am going to try and tap it and add a new nipple. Seems odd they don't sell just the end piece with the 4 wire plug.

Thanks again for everyone's help,

Rodney, You might check the OMC Accessories catalog. This catalog may have some OMS repair kits and some parts. I have not seen it myself, however, my '98 OEM Service manual calls it out for some parts for the PTT and OMS.

Rodney, be careful when talking to parts guys about stuff for your pump. It's not a VRO pump but an OMS pump. A lot of guys hear "VRO" and that's what sticks in their mind.

Also, if you do decide to go with a non-oil injected pump be aware that there is a pump that looks like your pump without the oil side. If you decide to go with the small standard pump you'll need 2. The related bracket and mounting components can be found on the W model of your motor. Giving up the oil injection is giving up a lot of saftey and alarms.
