I need help and advise.....my motor was damaged by freezing last winter....I hired a shop too reman the motor....I bought a new block, pistons, and rings, and a remaned crankshaft that was "ten" under(there was rust on the original crank) all was well, the motor started and ran great, it made a little smoke but i took that as the rings seating......all was well until about 5 hours into the break in......the motor started to have a "knock".....i checked the oil rite away and it went from the new oil look to a light grey or dirty look.......I called the guys that remaned the motor and they thought it sounded like a main bearing knock.......I thought the same thing.......what i need advise on is after spending mogo dollars on having this thing remaned......they said it sounded like it needed a "bottom overhaul" ie regrinding the crank and installing new bearings, and they would do that for free.......what i need to know is this ok to do.....or do they need to totally tear down the motor due to it "making metal" when the bearings failed......also what would make the bearings fail so soon.....i dont know the brand of bearings they used and i have looked here on the internet and find that "clevite 77" seem to be a recomended bearing for high perf engines......should i insist on them using those bearings or is there something out there that would be better.......the motor is a 2000 volvo 4.3 gl
