Need Help ASAP Please...Lower Unit Wont Drop

Working on a 96 johnson 88hp spl v4. I am trying to remove the lower unit. I have completely disconnected the shift rod under the carb. I removed the 4 large main bolts on the upper edge of the lower unit (2 on each side), and the large bolt on the under side of the lower unit. I removed the trim tab and the hidden bolt. I cannot find anymore bolts or any reason why this thing won't drop. It was last taken apart 5 years ago to replace impeller. please help if you can, I have to get this off tonight so that I can be at boat shop to exchange before noon tomorrow when they close, and it's a 2 hour drive.

Sounds like you got it all. Was the o ring at the top of the drive shaft replaced the last time you dropped the gearcase? If not your drive shaft splines may have rusted.

I bet theres another bolt that you are missing. Take a flahlight and look up under there real good.

Nope -- probably the splins are rusted into the crankshaft.

I'll go along with the rusted splines seeing it's been 5 yrs since the g/c was off.

Problem was solved late last night. There was indeed another bolt that I couldn't find until a friend showed it to me. Rookie mistake, but I'm learning. THANKS to everyone who posted a reply to my various threads. I completed the foot change and rebuilt the carbs today. She runs good and with a few adjustments she'll run great.
