Need help buying

I'm new to the forum so I would like to say hi. I do have a question for the motor savy people out there. I am in the market for a boat motor. I am looking at a 25 horse mariner, I think it is probably a late 80's model. The guy that is selling it thinks it is an 88. He bought it from a guy that used it very little. It looks very clean and the prop has very few scratches on it. I'm not sure about the Mariner though. The guy wants $1000 for it. If anybody out there knows anything about these motors please let me know if that is a good deal. Thanks a lot. My fishing is on delay until I get a motor. I can't hardly stand it.

Personally, I think that's a lot of moolah for that old of motor.

Go on ebay and check out what they are going for. I'm thinking my 1998 Mariner 25 was about 1800 new.

Yes thats way too much you should get that for half of what hes asking.

first we don't know what we're talking about, and neither do you. get the serial number, so we can find what year it is. without it we're just guessing. there are a lot of 25 hp Mariners.
