Just got a Garmin 498 GPs and fishfinder combo, less transducer. I have to go get a transducer seperately but there are too many choices, I'm confused about dual beam, dual frequency, and all that.
Here's what I know:
Gotta be transom mount.
Want depth and temp, don't need speed (temp is even optional).
Am on Florida Gulf coast, all of my boating will be coastal and around islands and mangroves. The majority of the time, max depth will be around 15 feet with the occasional venture a mile or two off shore but depth there will still only be 40-50 feet deep. So, I don't need a ton of power or low frequency to run deep.

What would be the best all around transducer for my shallow water needs?

Since your unit has 500 watts RMS you need a transducer that can handle it.
You have two choices.
10-10105-00 200khz 20 degree no temp or speed.

10-10106-00 200khz 20 degree with temp and speed.

It your choice, Temp can affect the way fish feed and where they travel. West coast albacore a degree or two change in tempature can be the difference from catching nothing or filling the boat.
Also if you look for a place to swim inland can help fine the right cove.

Water speed can also be helpful when trolling. For Salmon I like a water speed of 3.3 MPH. GPS will give you land speed but tides and currents will not be shown by GPS

For the depth water you are fishing you only need 200KHZ and want the widest transducer you can get 20 degrees.
