Re: need help connecting oil lines, 97 Merc 135
I bought a used 1999 Merc 135 hp carburated motor, the oil lines from the remote oil tank were cut when the motor was removed. I know it's a presure system. The tank has two 1/4 inch conections. I figure the one marked oil is the supply line and the other the pressure. I'm guessing the pressure line goes to the fitting on the lower side of the block. The motor has a smaller oil tank under the hood with a short hose comming off the bottom with a brass "T" fitting on it. Does the oil line connect to this fitting?? and if so, what else gets connected to this "T" fitting???
Thanks for any info.
That brass T fitting is actually a 2 lb. check valve. Usually the oil line goes to that fitting, and a short piece of line hangs off t downward so if the valve leaks a little the oil is dripped to the pan harmlessly. It is there so if the oil line from the boat gets kinked or pinched, the oil pump can still pull oil out of the engine tank. It will suck air in past that check valve to replace the oil removed from the engine tank. When it has gone down just a little in the engine tank the alarm will sound, giving you 'bout a half hour at WOT to get to safe harbor.
Mix 2.6 ounces per gallon of gas in your main tank till you are sure the oil injection is working properly. It'll smoke a little, but run fine.
Get the factory maintainance manual for that engine. It will have the oil system fully described, along with setup, bleeding, and adjustment information.
hope it helps
