Hello. I just got rid of my 1972 evinrude 50 hp outboard based on how prone to failure and expensive to repair it was. Also, I needed a larger motor. I've seen various models listed for sale at reasonable prices but I have decided to find a particular model that would fit my needs and work towards that. I know that I want it to be an OMC motor. What I need is help deciding what outboard would be best for me, based on the following factors:
100-130hp
2-stroke
Reliability, simplicity, ease of repair
Price and availability of parts
Mechanical shift
ability to hold up in occasional saltwater use preferred
built in or optional tilt/trim preferred
electric start
ability to add an alternator or charging system (not required but preferred)
Basically I want a highly available, common, reliable, and valuable outboard that will last and would be worth putting money into should the need arise. I do know definitely that I want to avoid any electric or hydro-electric shift models. I guess I should also mention that the boat it is going on is a V-hull fiberglass boat that's going to be used for both fishing and wakeboarding (although I may at some point want to swap it onto my pontoon boat)
