Need Help Determining Year Of Motor?!

My husband just purchased a 225 HP V6 Ocean Pro Johnson Outboard Motor off of E-bay a few months ago, and the add just said 1990's model motor.
Now are having problems with the oil injection alarms going off, and when u raise the RPM over 4000 it dies, and then it will not start back up for about 20-30 mins.
We have replaced the brain thing on the top, and a rectifier thingy, but still same thing...runs GREAT!in the driveway, but once you get it on the lake, it has no power.
So I am trying to find out exactly what year the motor is, we filed for a title but they just went by what year my hubby told them he thought it was.

It is White/Blueish Green and silver stickers...with it looks like a wave or a horse in the design....there is 1 on e-bay now....it is a 1999 looks just like ours in paint design and casing...but it is gray...please Help!

There should be a boilerplate somewhere on the transom bracket. Find that and get the model number and post it.

Went out and checked the plate is gone!

I do have the HIN or Serial Number on the title if it helps: G2537102:

I also just found another motor identical to ours on e-bay...it is a 2000 model and it looks just like ours, can some1 change the covers to amke it look newer?
If not can u tell me how many years they had this style?...TY!

Also, can u tell me by looking at the motor, how many years they made this style, or does it go by numbers on the motor somewhere.

I am not trying to get my money back from guy on E-bay...cuz if ya take the chance buying something site unseen ya just get what ya bargain for. But I just want to get the RIGHT manual for repairs and make sure we are buying the right parts

There is a plate somehwere on the motor/mount with a serial and model number. Take those to a dealer and they can tell you the year.
