Controls (throttle / gears / trim) part number: 827270a43

I'm doing some interior work in my boat, and I need to remove the controls from a piece of plywood so I can install it on the new plywood.

I tried putting the throttle at 1/2 in fwd and removing a small allen key, but that didn't seam to help anything, the control lever still won't come free.

Looking at the diagram, there is a nut (part # 7) underneath the "advanced throttle only" button (part # 6) , but I can't seam to get the button out. I tried prying the button out with a screwdriver, but I stopped because If I pried any harder, I thought I would break it.

Any ideas? the controls have a USCG 2003 sticker, so they're not that old.
