Hello everyone! i have an evinrude 125 electric shift v4. it overheated and popped the head gaskets, so i replaced them and it still runs like an animal.......when you first start it.... The problem is after running it wide open or at cruising speed, when you slow down and then go to take off again, the motor will not turn up. It makes a da da da da da da noise almost like its breaking up horribly or smacking a rev limiter. Any ideas?

If it overheated enough to blow the head gaskets, I would start with a compression and spark test.

Did you do anything to correct the overheat? Impeller, new vernatherm, new water diverters?

You may be losing spark. Weak ignition components run fine when cold. When the engine heats up to normal operating temps, they tend to break down. Sounds like hitting a rev limiter. Next time it happens, if you've got an inductive timing light with you, pull the cowling and see if you've got spark to all 4 while it's idling.
