Hi
dont know much about old outboards but Im going to learn! just got a 60s Glaspar G3 :Dboat with an evinrude starflite III motor, not sure if it runs yet, if I need stuff like a piston or bearings are they avail? or only used at boat junkyards?

Help, is this motor a nightmare to find parts for?

If I may ask you in a friendly way, in the future when inquiring about your motor, it makes it a lot easier if you identify it by year and/or model number instead of Starflite 3. See, I just had to search to figure out what year a 3 is. It is a 1961.

If it needs stuff like pistons and rods, you probably should think twice before investing that much in it. But if you still want to, the first thing you should do is get a parts list for your exact model so you can ask for parts by part number. With the part number, an Evinrude dealer can then tell you if they are still available or not.

Parts books are available at www.outboardbooks.com I might have a used one if you are interested. Send me a PM with the model number.

Hey thanks and I will soon as I get the motor in hand

I believe it is a 1961
yeah you are right! about year etc Im sure that hels ALOT lol
:p
, we dont have the boat and engine yet, picking it up tonight, we also got a 75hp johnson along with the boat, supposedly runs good. either way I think we will be ok, the prev owner said he ran the evinrude 8 years ago and that is ran ok and shifted etc, but that the water pump impeller was bad and it was getting hot overheated etc, so who knows what damage there is. going to try marvel mystery oil in cylinders, get her moving free and nice, then run a compression check etc, check for spark and maybye test fire her up in the next few days.
Thanks.......Vegasphotoman
