I am replacing the charge coil and sensor coil on my 1987 Evinrude 48 SPL. I need help fabricating a tool to place these two parts in the correct location. I know there is a tool you can purchase for this but I think $50 for an aluminum ring is just a little bit silly. The part is 553-4994 Locator Ring. I was hoping someone has one of these and can just let me know the inside diameter. Thanks.

I usually take a putty knife or a credit card or something straight that size and align the magnet cores with the turned bosses on the armature plate. Usually does the trick. Just make sure whatever you use touches the magnets surface top to buttom, and align it with the alloy on armature plate. You'll be fine.
