I have a Mercury 1980 40 hp and when I bought it the throttle was jimmy rigged to hell. I have since hooked up the throttle cables from my boat to it but again it is a jimmy rig job and i feel very unsecure about taking it out in the water more than 100 yards
. In fact I barely have a reverse and have no idle control while in neutral. Im sure I have this incorrectly set up.
I have taken pics of it in different throttle positions. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Btw the zip strips gotta go too but I dont have the proper brackets for this motor. I have an image of High, Med, Neutral, and Reverse and the images are labeled w/ yellow text in the bottom right. Also I noticed I did not get the gear cable in any of the images so we will just have to do w/o. (There gear is a little funny to atm too)
Also you will probably notice the plate under the flywheel attached to the lever is always full idle (all the way back). It just wants to sit there for some reason no matter what the throttle postion is. I have another forum asking what the deal with this is.
Its called Motor Revs High in Neutral.
Some linkage guru please help!!!
