Hey guys! I have a 1969 115hp electric shift motor. Model number: 115983E. I have done Joe Reeves test on the pulse pack and it is working fine  . The problem is.....still no spark!!!  :( Even though the coil is brand new I still suspect it is bad.(The previous repair shop that I bought it from replaced it). I need to see if one of you could tell me a part number and where I can get one. OR.....maybe one of ya have an idea on why the pulse pack would work and nothing after that does. Any help would be great. ;) :D :)

Have you tried iBoats yet. Try part #18-5193. Says 1969 - 1970 coil.

Temporarily remove the coil so that you can unscrew the coil lead from the distributor cap, then reinstall the coil.

Now check to see if you have spark jumping from that brass threaded spark plug lead. If you do, then obviously the problem would be with the distributor cap or rotor.

If memory serves me correctly, that engine has points, and if so, they should be set at .010 (no wider on either lobe). If it has a sensor rather than points, the clearance should be set to .028. Note that dragging a feeler gauge across a sensor will cause the powerpack to trigger the voltage to the coil, creating the spark.

Joe,...The more I seem to read about this coil the more it seems as if the wrong coil is installed on this motor. On my coil the coil lead plugs onto the coil if you know what I mean. The replacement coil that MG pointed out doesn't even look the same as the one on mine. (If I get time tomorrow I'll take a pic of it.)

But...I have taken that coil lead off and tested for spark to a screwdriver from the post of the coil.(No spark) If indeed that is a satisfactory test.

Hope that isn't too hard to follow guys. I really do appreciate the help. :)

Also, Joe...does the test for the pulse pack that you posted up here confirm if the sensor on the distributor is working?? Doesn't that determine when the coil should fire?

I was kinda hoping to not have to pull the flywheel but guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pull the flywheel tonite.
