I don't fish much or plan to, but I'd like to have a depth finder in my boat just because I'm curious how deep the lake is in some parts where we go. I don't know anything about depth finders. All I know is that I don't want to drill any new holes in the boat hull and I need something as AFFORDABLE as possible (cheap is a nasty word). I use the boat really just for wakeboarding/waterskiing. I looked around on e-bay and saw some used Hummingbird 400 units for around the 50-60 dollar range, but I don't know if this will work for me or if they are reliable/accurate, etc. I need some advice!

Re: Need help finding an affordable depth finder

shop around,I did for all winter hoping santa would bring me one,but I am installing my first fishfinder so I am not to far ahead of ya,I happen to have bought the hummingbird 400 that u had mentioned,on my boat I allready have a mount for transducer but I really dont think that old mount is anywhere near the right size/type so I am probably goint to remove old one and install new mounting kit that was in box...
then the fun part of figuring out the buttons..

as for the lake, with info thru your local library in maps,of course they might not let em out the door, but then again the internet is a great source for topagraphy of the lake bed.

whats the lake name?

its crunch time for boating season...
peace
