Ran across a boat today at an old abandoned barn and if I can find out who owns it I'm might try to get it from them.

Anyway, someone along the way decided the motor need flames painted on it so I don't know what size or year it is.

The model and serial number I got off the plate are 135E9l75E and J4832530.

I've looked around but I can't find anything to match up to those numbers.:(

Those numbers do not seem to make any sense to me unless it is not an Evinrude or Johnson.

the first 3 numbers J48 wwould be a 48spl johnson, BUT, 135 would be a 135 Evinrude. the rest of the numbers don't match anything. i can find. recheck the numbers, which is the top number on the plate?

Possible that the stamped numbers on the plate are hard to read. A 1975 135 johnson long shaft would have the following model number: 135ETL75E. Check this with your plate and see if you possibly mis-read the digits.

It was hard to see the numbers with the tilt lever right in the way. Add to that the fact that I was in a hurry since I really didn't have time to stop and it's quite possible I mis-read the numbers. Christmas time at UPS can be tough. :'(

I really don't think it's a 135 though. The boat's not big enough for that big of a motor. Or atleast I wouldn't be brave enough to get in it if it was.

Here is the boat: http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o84/govols019/?sc=3

looking at the pictures , the condition of the transom, spider cracked, and the size of the engine, i think it's and old 135 rude. the 48 -50 hp engines are a much smaller engine. there's a lot of work to do to that boat. by the dust it's been there a while.

I place it as a 135hp, model 135ETL75E, which is consistant with being an obvious V-4, the remote control design, and the power trim unit.

Re: Need help finding out what size and year a motor is.

I would put the motor as Johnson 85, 115 or 135 since they are the same size and you could not tell from a picture. The year is most likely 1974 or 1975.

The lower cowl on the 1973 models had a manual choke on the front. In 1976 the color on the Johnsons was changed to a very dark green.

Whoever set up that rig had money, and enough for options like the tilt and trim. I would bet that it is a 135.

Edit: In 1975 there were two 135 models, the 135ESL75 and the 135ETL75. The ETL75 shipped with the T&T, but the 135ESL75 could have the T&T added as an option. The only thing that I could say about the number that you listed in the first place is that the 'S' could easily look like a 9 which would explain the difference.

Re: Need help finding out what size and year a motor is.

I just never thought the motor would be a 135. I have a 120 Johnson on my 22' deck boat and a 135 just seems like overkill on that small of a boat.

there's a lot of work to do to that boat. by the dust it's been there a while.

It was last registered in '98. I'd say it was a safe bet it's been sitting since then. The only saving grace is that it has been partialy covered under a lean-to beside a barn.

The house beside the barn hasn't been lived in for several years also. Everything has an abandoned look to it. Gonna talk to the neighbors and see if I can find out who to talk to. Maybe they'll just let me have it. That would be nice since I don't know if it's worth anything. I'd just work under the assumption that everything is shot. Floor, trim, motor, stringers....etc.

My fiance would kill me if I came home with another boat. I just sold my fishing boat and I need to get my deck boat fixed. It's a '93 Lowe with quite a few leaking rivits. Taking the floor out to get to them is not something I'm looking forward to.:|

you can count on the transom being bad, that 2x4 under the engine mount scares me. don't tow it any further than you have to, don't want the engine in the road. it could be a perfectly good engine. the kid moved away, and the dad had no interest. get the registration number, the dept of motor vehicles(or boats) can tell you who the last registered owner is.

Yeah, that 2X4 worried me too. Exactly what is its purpose anyway?

Re: Need help finding out what size and year a motor is.

to help keep the weight off the top of the transom, is my guess. last year i traded a boat for a Merc 135, the motor came on a 16' Glasstron, unknown vintage, that transom was so cracked, it was un repairable. i didn't want the boat anyway. the previous owner had put a steel plate across the inside and outside of the transom, and thur bolted it.

Sorry, but I have enlarged and brightened the photos and I can't see a 2 X4 except the ones in the bilge which I thought might have supported a portable fuel tank or battery.

Which picture are you speaking of?

ezeke, it was a picture with a 2x4 mounted on the outside of the transom, directly under the motor. the picture has disapppeared off the link.

if you've never driven in Orlando area, it's either go fast or get ran over. i saw that in yesterdays paper also.

That's all the pictures I had on my phone. There wasn't one with a 2X4 under the motor. Not that I remember anyway.

I thought you were talikng about the one in front of the transom that had seen better days.

which I thought might have supported a portable fuel tank or battery.

That makes sense.

yep, difinatly a four cyl.omc.with the numbers you gave 135 would be a good bet, secondly, its a GO FAST boat, and a 135 depending on the yr.might have been the highest hp four cyl.omc on the mkt.next step would be a 6 cyl.thats too much weight probably.

It looks as if it might have been an I/O at one time. Their seems to be a doghouse tilted up.
