Need help from a 185 owner

I have a 2005 185 and had to remove the engine cover. At the time it seemed obvious how the gas cylinders (that support the cover when it's open) were attached to the hull (on the lower end of the cylinder). Of course, now that I'm putting it back together, I can't seem to find a configuration where the cylinder on the port side doesn't hit something when closing the hatch.

If someone could respond with a description of how the lower cylinder bracket attaches to the hull (or better yet, post a picture), I would be most grateful.
