need help how to wind spring and new cord on 3.9hp 1963-4 Merc

can't figue out how to replace the cord and.... wind up the spring under the 3 pawls that spin out to grab the flywheel

​surely a simple solution but a few pics or good words would help a lot

the spring unhooks itself if Ihave the unfortunate tendency to turn the back plate the wrong way trying to hold all the parts and fithem in the cowl
