Recently purchased a mercury outboard serial #0A751844 (Canada) with no stickers on it. When I look up the serial number it gives me model #1020201GC, 1989 20HP but also says 20 H.P /25 H.P. SEA PRO /MARATHON 25 SUPER 15. How can I know what HP/model the motor is? The carburetor needs rebuilding and I don't know what one it is or the jet size. If it is the 20HP can I just put the bigger jet in to make it a 25? The carb has WMC on it but no # after it. Attached is a pic of carb.

Thanks in advance

Your serial number comes up as an MERCURY CANADA 20 (MH) which was mentioned on the site you ran the serial number through on the first page that popped up as it said (MERCURY 1989 20 1020201GC)

Also the third and fourth numbers in the Model Number I highlighted above also indicates it's a 20 HP from new as well.

The other engine size and model names info you see in the parts guides is just because they all share near similar parts...But it's always better to know your original engine HP then compare the info in the parts guide to certain parts found on the engine to know if someone swapped things around over the years such as what you'd like to do by upping the power to 25, etc..

Parts that may be different between the two. Carbs, Intakes/reeds, Cylinder Block, Cylinder Head, Pistons, Parts of the Exhaust System.

In addition, pickup timing specs, and throttle linkages may be different
