need help identifying this motor

i bought it on ebay was told it was a pre-war evinrude 3 horse, but he wasnt sure of anything else, what year is it and any other info would be usefull, im planning on putting it in a vintage 8 foot fiberglass race boat. thanks

In addition, there a website that deals almost exclusively with old motors. It's the website of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, Inc. aomci.org Then go down to "Ask a Member". Since they're not a vendor, I hope I broke no rules posting this.
