need help identifying year model

i just bought an old glassmaster trihull that has a 70 evinrude on it. i bought the boat for the trailer that it is on. i only paid $300 for the whole shebang. bought the boat sight unseen. after getting it to my house i realized that the boat is in pretty fair condition. i thinking about using it for a while until i can work up the funds to buy a new boat to put on this trailer. the motor has obviously had a lower unit swap as it is black and the mid section is kind of greenish gold lookin. the model number is 70esl75b and the serial number is j4282680. what is the year model of this motor? i havent really looked at it closely. do not have any controls for it. is this an electric shift motor? the boat has not been registered since 99 so im sure the motor needs a little help. is it worth messing with?

ok. ive done a little research. as far as i can tell it is a Johnson motor and a 75 model. it has an evinrude lid on it. haha. what does the "b" at the end of the model number designate?

That's an engineering production code. Sometimes it is needed when ordering parts, but not always.

what kind of ignition system is on this motor? points or the more modern cdi style?
