Need help indentifying year built

I just bought a boat with a 7.5 Merc engine and I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the year built? The serial number is on the plate, but you can't make out but couple of numbers on it. I'd just like to get a ballpark guess on it. I've attached a pic of it. Hopefully some of you "experienced" boaters could help me out I would greatly appreciate it!!

84 or 85 the serial number is also stamped in the block
