need help installing a steering rod

Need some creativity. I want to connect a steering rod between my 100hp Merc and my trolling kicker motor, but the trolling motor has no external hardware to attach a steering rod. It is a 4hp Evinrude. Any creative ideas on how to connect the 2 motors? I really need a fix for this, and I don't want to pay a shop a few hundred dollars to do it. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks for the reference. Double coincidence: 1) I have the same vintage Evinrude, but 4hp, and 2) I bought the same steering rod. I wish I could contact the site author to ask if his kicker had something to mount the rod to or if he fabricated something, and maybe get a closeup shot.
