Hello all,

Don S. Thanks, I hope this is the right place. Great Forum!!

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have already found an overload of information.
I have been messing around in boats for years. This is my first outdrive rig.

I have recently purchased a 1995 Regal 256 with a VP Duo Prop.
I think the boat has been re-powered because, I cannot find my boat with a 7.4 option for that year on the volvo sight..
I am trying to figure out which drive I have so I can pull the props and replace the sac. zinc.
I have purchased a Clymer manual for the drives.

When I looked at the boat for the second time, I noticed that the props were bent. The dealer said it had happened when they 'parked' the boat and trailer in the yard, backed into curb and they would have the props repaired for the sea trial. They did. However, they did not replace the sac. zink and I would like to instal a new one.

When I search for a zinc, all I find are zincs for a 280 or 290 drive.
If I read the manual correctly, I think I have a DP-D1 out-drive. Where can I find the serial number/model number? The exhaust is not through the prop hub. There is no adjustable trim fin (?) If that is true, which zinc do I need?
:confused:Which prop wrench do I need to remove the forward prop?

Also have a port side leaking trim cyl. that I am going to try and reseal with out completely removing the cyl. from the trans. I think I can pull the ram and reseal and reinstall in-place. What are your thoughts on that endever?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Don't read the manual to find what drive you have, start by posting a picture, there are several different types of duoprop outdrives.
Once we figure out the type, we can work on the specific model and where to find the model and serial numbers.

Do you have the serial number of your engine handy, many times that will help to find the type drive with the package.

Look for a good local prop shop. They can handle getting your wheels back to new condition.

I use Jim's Prop Shop in Florence, AL

I can get the engine serial number. However, I think the boat has been repowered. I think this is correct because I cannot find a 7.4 volvo as an option for the year and model of my boat.

I'll get the info and some pix and post them.

Thanks for the help.

Bamaman,

Thanks. I live in Athens and work in Huntsville.
There are two shops in the area. Next time I'll haul out before low water at Bay Hill.

I would like to buy a prop wrench for the forward prop. I think I can get the aft prop off and that should help in figuring out which wrench I'll need.

Thanks,

Its a DP according to the pix. I donot have through prop exaust. There is not any adjustable trim fin below the anticavitaion plate. It has the prop "nose cone". The trim cylinders are roundish and black, not like the older square models.

Here is where you will find the model and SN tag for that drive.

Volvo Drive ID.jpg

Once you find the model number GO HERE and scroll down near the bottom for the proper OEM manual and download it.

As far as fixing the trim cylinder, you are going to have to find your own seals, Volvo doesn't sell repair parts for those cylinders, nor to the tell how to fix them in the manuals. Well worth a try if you can get them apart.
You can get the prop wrench here http://www.iboats.com/Tool-Kit/dm/*******.320594808--**********.817391306--view_id.305006

Re: Need help. New to outdrive boat.

Don,

YAWHOOOOOO.

After lowering the trailer jack alllllllll the way down and trimming in all the way, I could read the plate. It is a DP-D1 with a ratio of 1.78, I cannot read the Serial Number, old and its getting dark;)

With that said, the plate info I sent, BTW all of the previous info was found on the engine, does the transom info elude to a DP-S Drive?

Thanks, I will now follow your link for more info.

Thanks again,
