1998 v6 carb.Intermittent alarm sounding. Plenty of oil. Removed oil line after pump and no oil came out.Started engine and still no oil.Inspected oil pump and replaced plastic magneto part.I was able to spin the pump shaft manually. Is this supposed to happen? Shaft did not sound right. Thinking maybe shaft splines are damaged or maybe the gearing in the block. How do you remove the shaft and does anybody have any other info on this problem?

Thats a rather common V6 problem to strip the crank drive gear

Yes...if the plastic drive gear on your crank is gone, you will have to dissasemble your power head to replace.A costly project for a plastic gear. You could disable your oil injection system and premix your gas at 50:1. Or i see they have electric pumps that replace the mecanical ones...they may have them hear on iboats.

Thanks for the replies. I bypassed the pump and premixed oil and fuel. How do you bypass the oil alarm system? I tried disconnecting the leads from the sensor that connect to the module but this did not work.

Re: Need Help-oil pump drive shaft

When selling ain't an option: The warning module black box controls the beeping. It's about the size of a cigarette pack and is attached on the port side of the block near the rear. It accepts leads from the oil reservoir fill cap...trace these wires and you'll see it there. Disconnecting the blue/tan wire that comes out of the module will disable the warning beeps. Possibly there's a way to cut out just the low-oil warning beep without disabling overheat -- other posters may know, I don't.
