'82 Celebrity OMC 230 (rubber boot on outdrive)

I have about half a steering wheel of slack on the before it moves from left to right. How do you adjust the cable? Hydrolic power assist steering

Tilt Motor.....
Took it out to the river this weekend, and when it came time to load on the trailer, the out drive wouldn't tilt up... could hear it try, click ..click selenoid good....

ended up we had to drag it up the ramp with the drive down!... wet gravel ramp, so did no damage, just left a furrow. Finally, with 2 of us lifting on the drive, and another guy hitting the switch, it decided to come up.

I took the plate off on the outside to see what I had inside, and instead of oil.. it was full of water, (new seals and gasket on order) I took everything apart, flushed with parts cleaner and have everything looking good. The motor engages without fail every time up and down without drive attached. Is it possible it was just bound up?

Thanks

Not sure about the tilt question, but my 94 with OMC/Volvo setup also has the same play, even with a new rack. I have no idea why, but seems to go away when under power.

Check the fluid level for you trim pump. If you can't see it add some ATF, and see if that works.
Worked on my 81 3.0 OMC.

COCKED AND LOADED!

Ndemge
I want to make sure we are talking about the OMC stringer with the big rubber boot and to trim engine lift the front of motor. Tilt is from the tilt motor and clutch on the port side with a 1/4 round gear to lift out drive.

If that is what you have while you have the tilt motor gear off try and lift the and lower the out drive by hand. Mine got where each time I his the tilt button would lift only about 2 inches and stop. Problem turned out to be pivot where ourdrive swivels. Even thou I greased both zerts every year no grease got to the back side of Bushing. I supported outdrive and took caps off of pivots then took bushing off and cleaned and lubbed all the way around put back together. Now will raise all the way in a count of 3 and lower all the way with 1/4 second on the switch.
By the way that tilt clutch uses motor oil not out drive oil.
