need help on volvo penta 7.4G

hello iboats long time. well i am looking to perchase a sea ray with a volvo penta 7.4G v 8 engine the seller said the engine was install two years ago. it is a 1988 searar 26 foot sundance hull seems to be in great shape, boat is still in the water try to start it but the batterys was low . the seller stated it runs great. so i am familuar with mercruiser engines, but not volvo penta . whish one is the better ? what drive sopose to be on the boat volvo or alpha s ? thanks

A 7.4 is a Chevy big block, both Mercruiser and Volvo used that engine. It's just the accessories and the paint color that's different.
Drive wise, I would take the Volvo hands down, but that's just me.
You don't mention the full model number, or serial number, so not even sure of the year or anything else about the engine or drive.

thanks don s for the feedback . i am going back to the boat to take a look now, and will bring back some pic of the engine/serial number . so ur saying the volvo drive would be the better choice? i always respect ur option so if its has a volvo thats woul be fine. will post later thanks

That must be a repower, cause that boat would have had a Mercruiser 454 with an Alpha drive, in 1988. Not that there's anything wrong with a VP, but it didn't come in that boat new.
