Need help please

I hope someone can help. I just got a vsonic think its an 85 omc 3.8l with an outlive. Is water suppose to come out of the engine and fill up the area under the motor then be pumped out of the boat? If so how much water should be in there? Should it get pumped out as fast as it goes in? Also have water coming out of both sides of the engine. What I think is the exhaust manifolds have like hairline cracks in them and I believe is leaking water there.at the back of those there are like big rubbercouplers and one looks burnt up and was smoking pretty good back there. I'm new to this type of boat but I am mechanically inclined just kinda need to know a little more about what I'm dealing with..any thoughts comments facts opinions and help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

:welcome: No that's not normal . your engine and manifolds had water left in them and it froze .

So is any water suppose to come out and fill up under the engine and get pumped out the side of the boat..if it isn't how does the water leave the boat. What does water freezing in there mean for my engine it still runs. Thanks

There are many here that can explain it better and more accurately, but the bilge should be dry. The pump that sends the water out of the side of the boat is a safety feature for water that shouldn't be in there and could sink the boat.

The engine cooling water comes in through the submerged outdrive and impeller. It then is pumped to the thermostat housing (engine block), fluid coolers and exhaust manifolds. All water is meant to exit through the exhaust.

Check to make sure that drain plugs on the block are installed. They may have been removed

The guys gotcha' about right ... no water in the bilge (stuff might drip a little here and there, but it's not supposed to accumulate at all). The cooling water will get picked up by your drive from the ports on the side of the lower unit. They are drawn up by the impeller (bottom of your upper gear case) and sent up into the engine. From there the system kinda' looks like a car's until the water heads back out. It vents out under water thru hub on yours I think.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Freeze plugs,..??..??

There's core plugs along the sides of the block, maybe on the front, 'n probably a couple on the back of the block,....

That motor has been frozen, 'n busted,.... Yer no doubt gonna new a replacement block, 'n manifolds,...

You need to run it and watch where the water is coming from , it could be something as simple as closing the drain valves on the block , or as these guys have mentioned the block could be toast from getting froze. Find out where that water is coming from

Some water is coming out of crack in manifold but most seems to be coming out from behind or on the bottom side of the manifolds. I ran it for about an hour the other day ran ok other than all the water coming out. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow after work..thanks

Look for some numbers on the engine somewhere, possibly valve covers that are like this...

You need to pressure test the cooling system of your engine. If you are lucky, the block isn't cracked and you will just have to replace the manifolds.

Sounds like the core(freeze) plugs have popped out.
You should have 8 core plugs.
2 under the bellhousing. You'll need to pull the motor to put them back in.
Check the oil and see if there is water mixed in???
You might have gotten lucky and only cracked the manifolds.
Look under the manifolds, on the block, there are drain plugs.
Check tem out as they sometimes crack around the plug.

Well some good news today thanks to all of you guys. I got a good light out and looked everything over where the water was coming out I had freeze plugs popped out. One on each side. So I think that is somewhat of a relieve? My next questions for y'all is 1. Since the freeze plugs popped does that mean my block is ok? Did me running it with two freeze plugs out damage anything? 2 the freeze plug on the port side I think I can get in without pulling the motor however the starboard side is behind the front motor mount...so how Hard would it be to pull the engine..and 3 my manifolds still have hairline cracks can a good welding shop fix them up or do they need replaced and also what damages can be done running it with the cracks.. sorry for the long post but thanks everybody for helping wer getting closer..
