Hi everyone,

I have a MerCruiser engine with a Mercarb 2-barrel carburetor (part no. 1389-9562).
During maintenance, I accidentally pulled out the choke linkage rod/lever (the small D-shaped part that connects the choke shaft to the throttle linkage).

Now I can’t get it back in — the hole seems very tight, and there is a small retainer spring inside that blocks the rod. I tried rotating the lever to find the right angle, but it still won’t slide back.

👉 My questions:

1. What is the correct way to reinstall this linkage rod?

2. Do I need to compress the retainer spring somehow, or should the rod just snap back in when aligned correctly?

3. Has anyone else run into this issue on a Mercarb carburetor?

Any advice, photos, or video links would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance 🙏

thats the accelerator pump lever. you will have to take the top off the carb and there is a set screw holding to to the pump inside the carb.

the smaller rod uses a small cotter pin or clip to hold it on.

Mikes carb parts has some god videos of mercrab rebuilds not sure if its on his website or Youtube channel
