NEED HELP, see pics, keel repair 18' searay

After a recent trip fishing in the Mazonia strip mines in IL I noticed damage to the keel of my 18 foot 1998 searay fish and ski. The lakes are no wake with many humps and I managed to find one. I thinking about filling the damage with 3M Premiun Filler (P/N 46004) and then putting a keel gaurd on. I am fairly handy with woodwooking and finishing but have no experience with boat repair. My plan is to clean the area with acetone, sand/gouge out the loose parts and use the filler. Then sand to shape and put the keel gaurd on. Should I gelcoat before applying the keel gaurd? I am little nervous operating on my second daughter and help would be appreciated. I think I got a few pictures attached.

i don't know how to fix it, but am curious since i have a couple similar looking gashes on my four winns, also, i used to row competitively and we ran into a submerged tree with a 40 foot shell, punched through the carbon fiber and we just slapped on some packaging tape and raced in the next event, not the best repair, but it did the job.
