Trying to find my next boat...love the Stingray sport boats (18-22’) and desire a V8.

Is anyone Stingray savvy?? I desire a red stripe and white (not cream) gel. Model comments??

The three I take care of all have sixes... sorry. They are also white and green. Fun little boats though, not the best ride. They all feel thin and dont take chop well at speed but the are quick and nimble. These are the 18's.

Going to look at a 2000 Glastron SX 195, with the 5.0 Volvo/Penta system- any experiences on this boat?

Yes, I'm Stingray savvy. Our family ran Stingrays for the past 35 years. All 19-21 feet. IMHO, a V8 is a waste of money, unless you just want bragging rites. My 4 banger 3.0 was an awesome engine. My son's V6 was good, but not much better. You have to understand that Stingrays are designed to run better with less HP.

I laugh at the comments about harsh ride. My new SeaRay is significantly heavier and more HP, (and the ride is awesome), but my old Stingray rode just as well.

I also have experience with Porches. If you are satisfied with that ride (and i don''t know why), the Stingray ride won't bother you at all.....LOL.

OTOH, recent Glastrons are not what I would consider a value product.

As far as color, I can't comment. I only buy new and order whatever the Admiral wants.

Finally, go Merc. Volvos are not bad, but try to find a dealer to service it and you'll understand why Merc is the best choice.

I have a stingray as well. I believe the 4.3 to be the comparable to the 5.0 but less noise, lol. Before I get jumped on the 5.0 likely can produce more horse power with more modifications but my 4.3 passes most other boats on the water including the 5.0 and 5.7, not that I would tho :subdued:. My WOT is 55 on the GPS. I have the 198 lx, and it is red... lol. I have found it does ride a bit hard in the chop. one foot waves it loves and just eats them up. 2 foot chop and I get launched out of the water and does not make for a fun ride.

There is an 18ft stingray in my yard. It has a 4.3 in it. It must be the quickest boat out there with a 4.3. Well into the 50’s easily. Such a light and slippy hull. Not good in a bit of chop though. Very barely furnished shallow hull.

Big difference between an 18 and a 22 foot boat...I think you may want to figure that out. I like the big engines myself. I went to Porsche driving school last year and got the bug for a high HP/TQ car as did everyone who I went with. My new daily is a twin turbo V8 BMW and everyone else got a Porsche.
