My fater in law purchased what I think is a 1998 6 hp 2 stroke 2 cyl Evenrude outboard for $250. The dark blue paint was covered with a camo paint job. The previous owner removed the id sticker. I have only been able to guess at the year based on the date of MFG stamped on the flywheel (10/7/97) and a date of 10/17/97) on a sticker attached to the carb. That sticker also says "made in mexico" and has a "102797" number below the date of MFG. It has a cotter pin holding the prop on, if that helps.

The problem he's having is it won't plain his 10' infatable at lakes over 7,000'. I pulled the carb and found a "38" stamed on the main jet. the motor runs fine at idle, but runs way too rich off idle and starts missing when you try to open the throttle.

Just trying to figure out if it's a 6 or 8 horse motor so I can order the proper jet for high altitudes. Is there anywhere else I could find the motor numbers with out the sticker?

Thanks in advance.
