Need help with 1980..175 Johnson

I have a 1980, 175 HP Johnson that the lower unit was run <br />without oil. I got in side and the pinion gear is chewed up.<br />I cannot get the bearing housing to come up on the <br />drive shaft.<br />The shaft is froze in place.<br />Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to come loose.<br />Thanks!!

Soak with penetrant<br />Heat housing<br />Try removing<br />Curse<br />Repeat above about a dozen times<br />Search ebay and local yards for a used unit<br />Repeat about a dozen times<br />Honestly, if it was run dry for any period of time, it's anyone's guess whether or not it's ever gonna budge. But, its a long winter and a good excuse to tinker. I hope someone else has a better plan!!<br />Good luck
