I have searched the forums and performed every test that I could. I am at a loss here. To start with, the boat wasn't winterized as good as I thought. Ended up having to replace two freeze plugs in the engine and the power steering cooler. Here are where my issues start. Before I knew about the PS cooler issue, I ran the boat on muffs. I was getting PLENTY of water coming to the PS cooler....because it sprayed all over my engine compartment. Replaced the PS cooler....and now I have NO water flow to the engine. I have removed the hoses to verify blockages...none. I have removed the drive and the hose at the thermo housing. Then I flushed it by holding a hose to the stern drive...forcing water up through the PS cooler and up to the disconnected hose running into a bucket. The water flows fine...no blockages. With the drive off, I inspected the water pump housing and impellor. They are fine. I replaced the gaskets and alignment piece for the water pickup tube between the upper and lower halves. I ran water through the muffs, and had the water pump disconnected to see if water was able to get to the pump. It flowed fine. So I have verified that there are no blockages of any sort, but it still will not flow any water! It worked up until I replaced the PS cooler! Any thought of what to check next? Could bad seals in the lower drive be to blame?

Howdy,

And welcome to iboats!

Well, you might have a few things going on there...... A year model would help immensely.

To start with, the boat wasn't winterized as good as I thought. Ended up having to replace two freeze plugs in the engine and the power steering cooler. Here are where my issues start.
First of all, This isn't necessarily related to your "problem" but understand if any CORE plug popped out, you may have a cracked block. I hope you realize that they're NOT "freeze" plugs. They do not protect anything. They popped out because there was water in the block that froze (and expanded). if it didn't break it on the outside, it may have broken on the inside...........just saying......

If the raw water pump is not pumping water now, it's either not getting water, it's damaged, it's not turning, the water pathway from the pump to the hose supplying the PS cooler/engine is plugged, or it's sucking air and cannot prime......

this is usually NOT a problem on "muffs" though, since you have a hose supplying pressure TO the pump......it would just leak where it would suck air once the drive is not completely submerged.....

(did someone remove the "NEVER REMOVE" screw? Is this REALLY a Cobra?)

I replaced the gaskets and alignment piece for the water pickup tube between the upper and lower halves
I am not following you here......why did you split the drive (upper/lower)? Again, year model might help here. ............

Rick
