Need help with 77 model Johnson Electric Choke

I have a 77 model 35 hp Johnson electric start with electric choke. My problem is with the choke solenoid. The solenoid has a rod that pulls the choke on, this rod is coming all of the way out of the solenoid when hauling the boat to the ramp to go fishing. So you have to pull the hood off and put the rod back in so you can use the electric choke. What keeps the rod in the solenoid. It is missing the rubber boot that goes around the rod to the solenoid, is this all I need? If so where can you get just the boot.
