i have a volvo dps drive the funny part is that it has omc cobra stickers on it. its behind a 5.7 chev, i changed the seal in the shift mechanism and reinstalled all worked great for the hour that i ran it. went back out next weekend rand for a half hour and bang bang bang i think i processed a small log.
i slammed the drive in neutral and shut engine off. started engine a min later all seemed fine lifted drive and no prop damage, went back to marina put on trailer and see no obvious damage. put back in water brang up rpms and felt little vibration, boat seems not as fast like a slipping clutch in a car. making noise but seems slower at normal engine speeds. speedo paddle wheel broke so i have no speedo. put in neutral and sounds like i have people sword fighting in boat, cling chang cling...ect i push control lever forward a bit and it goes away. now im stumped. so i take it to the shop and they cannot find any damage from what ever i stumbled upon but tore the drive down and claim that i need a shift mechanism(complete assy), and a new cone clutch. the drive work great, does this seem right or am i missing something. then im told that my shift and throttle cable are bad and its not helping, but the shift parts are what volvo told them to change to fix the drive???? thanks for any help
