I have a 1989 Stratos with a 1989 Evinrude 155hp. I hope I'm in the right forum for this question. I have a jack plate that came with the boat when I bought it. Please forgive me, I never had a Jack Plate on any boat that I have owned, so I know nothing about them. But what I realized the other day is, I have to raise the motor and I don't have a clue where to start. The Jack Plate is made by Hi Jacker, it has 4 bolts 2 own each side where the bolts holes are are slotted. Then there are 2 more bigger bolts one on each side, these two bolts look like they are used to raise the motor on the Jack Plate, Don't know. If I had to guess, I loosen the 4 bolts, (2 on each side) then I take a wrench and turn the bigger bolts (1 on each side to raise the motor. If that is the case, do I need to place a jack under the motor to hold the motor. I will try to put up some pictures if that will help.

thanks

Theres quite a few different jackplates including many home made so post a photo if possible Mav.
Why do you think it needs lifting?

Re: Need help with a jack plate

If it is like my Jack plate, you loosen the two bolts that sit horizontally. Now turn the nuts that sit vertically and the motor will slide up or down. When it is set where you want it tighten the horizontal bolts. You will need a 15/16" wrench for the vertical bolts, if memory serves. The horizontal nuts take a 3/4" socket and box wrench.
