I need to replace my prop. I looked all over it and cant fint any numbers or spec. I would think from all the reading I have done that a 14x18 will work for me but want to ask a few pros. I have only had this boat for a year, never had one before this. My best friend was killed in iraq and his parents gave it to me so it means alot to my family to keep this thing running. I hit a rock and jacked up one of my blades.

1979 18.5 foot bayliner with a aq120/270
I dont know much else but could use some tips on fixing it up and stuff. Any help about anything it is welcome.

Re: Need help with a prop

Picking a prop is a bit tricky. There are many variables involved such as weight of the boat, engine wot rpm, intended use of the boat, etc... I recomend that you google prop wizard and use it. That will put you in the ballpark as to what sizes of prop you can use. From there it's allot of trial and error since 4 diff sized props might fit that engine, but they will all perform diff. See if there is a local prop shop that will work with you, allot of them will let you try diff props if you leave a deposit with them. Try several and buy the one that fits your needs best.

Re: Need help with a prop

ok thanks for the info. I do know the boat is a tri hull and has open seating in the from so its not a cutty cab. So the boat probably seats 8 without a problem or crowding. What I use the boat for is cruising up and down the rivers here in Pittsburgh and pulling my kids on a tube. I would like to be able to pull someone on skis if its possible. With that info can you help?

Good luck finding a 14x18, I would think a 14x17 would be the steepest pitch for that boat anyway.

Probably a 14x15 for watersports and it will still be underpowered, and a max of 14x17 for cruising.
