Just purchased a Sea King and I am trying to start it.The model # is VWB52179A. It has sat for 10 years so I know I will have to change the impellor and go through the carb. I'm just doing some quick troubleshooting to see where I stand. I pulled the plugs and I'm getting spark. Shot a quick spray of starting fluid and nothing. Pulled the plugs again, wire brushed them and they look new. Shot some starter fluid in the cylinders and tried again. Nothing.I'm not sure where to go from here or what to try. Also, if someone could tell me the year of the motor and a source or sources for parts I would be grateful. Thanks in advance....Sid

Motor was made by chrysler in 1980. Sounds like you are not getting spark witch is a problem. Nobody carries parts for that motor especially electircal. That motor has a CD electrical coil that cost around $200 dollars but is oboslete

Start with real troubleshooting. Changing and cleaning parts is not troubleshooting.

Never use starting fluid in a 2 stroke. . .kiss of death.

First, I think you need to go throught "Awakening a sleeping outboard" in Engine FAQs.

If it still won't start, do "outboard won't start".

If you find parts that really need changing, try www.tcoutboard.com for used stuff.

Ok, read the FAQ's and I have good spark. It's blue across a 1/2" gap. Bought new plugs. Squirted gas in the carb and nothing. Pulled the plugs and gave the cylinders a squirt. Nothing. I don't expect it to run just by squirting some gas in it, but I would like to see if it will fire off before I tear apart the carb and change the impellor. I have the original parts manual, but can't tell which plug wire goes where. I have tried them both ways but still no fire. Any thoughts?

Let me ask this question...I have fuel, I have spark, I have air, is there any way the timing could be off? How do I determine if I have spark at the appropriate TDC? Could I have spark when the plug is outside the cylinder but no spark when the plug is installed? Not sure how to troubleshoot this type ignition....Sid
