Hello folks!
I bought the alignment/bearing install tool from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0220416344&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT but didn't find out until I received it that it has to be setup with the Gimbal bearing in the boat...
I contacted the seller but it's Saturday, probably out on the water.
I have a Volvo Penta 5.7/SX-M drive, was wondering if anybody has the same and what the measurement is for drilling the bearing installer in place on the alignment tool.
Also, am I just supposed to beat the end of the alignment tool to seat the bearing? Seems like it would mess it up???
Thank you, bearing is in the freezer and I'm ready to get this thing in!!!

Ayuh,.... I've just got a plain ole Alignment bar.... Nothing like that....

I drive the bearing in using an old cut-off piece of shovel handle....

Look around other bearing driver web pages. There are quite a few on e-bay with instructions. I think you will find a few that use the same shapes and methods.
Or if you can't figure it out that way...Put the alignment tool into the coupler to figure out how deep the tool is into the gimbal housing when it is fully inserted. Then make a mark and be sure to drill so the bearing driver can fully install the bearing to it's proper depth, while still sitting in the coupler. It will be even easier to determine depth if the old bearing is still in the boat, just use that depth as a guide and add 1/4 or 1/2" toward the boat so you can bottom the bearing in it's spot. If that tool is also used for driving the seal you'll need to go the distance that will bottom the seal too. To do that add the thickness of the bearing to the previous value.
Don't forget to mark the grease valley location on the gimbal bearing so you can line it up with the grease line in the housing.

By the way, I used the freezer too, works awesome.
