Hello, I just bought my first powerboat and am not sure on the engine and am a bit confused trying to id it. It is a 150 HP v6, 2 stroke, carbed, merc w/ serial number 0G541105. The PO told me it was a 1997 engine which had a full powerhead rebuild in 2005 ($2800 of reciepts). Just trying to make sure I know which of the half dozen 150 HP motors they built back then so I can order the proper parts and such and know what I have. They certainly make it confusing for the newbies. Thanks for any help.

It comes up as:

150 V-150 V6 0G451461 0G594012 1997 USA

From here:

http://www.marinshopen.se/Motorer/O...Mercury2taktV6135175hp/tabid/490/Default.aspx

It is a model:

1150412TD MERCURY 1997 150

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/1678.cfm

Service Manual P/N: 90-824052R3

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/824052r3/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Re: need help with engine identification

Thanks for the great links. Now I know which motor I have. I really like this site. I will search the site to see if there are any common problems to look for and maintenance hints and such. I will save all this in my laptop for future reference. I am pretty good with parts for now, it came with a spare set of plugs (weird looking plugs) which I put in and a water impeller kit, clymer manual, two stainless steel props, and some other handy stuff.
