Hi guys, i have an evinrude fastwin 18 HP from 1967. I have to fix a breaker point but i don´t know when the switch must be opened ( how many milimeters before the piston is on the top ).I also don´t know in what position must be the handle of gas in that moment when i am fixing the breaker points. I have also a problem that when I start the motor it runs only for a few seconds, what can be a reason of this?
Please help, i´m new in outboards world!!
Thanks !

Hello, Boso.

You asked this question before. Please do not repeat.

You can move your first posting to the top by replying to it.

I misunderstood your question before and gave you the point gap setting, not the timing.

I suggest that you buy a Repair Manual for the engine. Go to the bottom of the page and click on Repair manuals .

Good luck. :)

Set the points at .020" when the fiber rider on the point arm is lined up with the keyway on the crankshaft...
- Scott
