Hi guys,
I have a 40 HP Mariner outboard that is giving me some problems.
I ordered a new prop which is supposed to be an updated, direct replacement for my old prop.
The new prop number is: 48-73134A45 and the old prop number was 48-73134A40L.
From everything that I've read this should be a direct replacement.
The problem came when I tried to install the prop onto my outboard.
Everything went fine until I tried to put on the new prop nut that came with the Flo-Torq Reflex hub kit.
The nut is the wrong size for my shaft.
I then tried to use my old castle nut and cotter pin system in place of the nylock nut and bent tab system that came with the new hub.
Unfortunately, something has changed with the new hub and the hole for the cotter pin isn't visible no matter how much I try to tighten the nut. I'm thinking that the new style of thrust washer is holding the prop out about a 1/4" farther than the old style thrust washer.
I'm at a loss on what to try next or how to solve this problem
If anyone can help me out with a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is my motor information in case it is needed:
Mariner 40EL
6E9L 422358
I don't know what year the motor is.
