I'm trying to remove the Drive Pinion from the Top of the Gearcase on my 50 HP West Bend Outboard. It appears that the Pinion is pressed into the Bearing and the Bearing is pressed into the Gearcase. How can I get this disassembled? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Stick the drive shaft into the pinion and tap it out. If it gets stubborn, put the upper gearcase in the oven (when your wife isn't looking) and heat it up to around 300 degrees. The pinion then should practically fall out.

Thank you for the quick response. I will try tapping it out tomorrow morning. I assume I need to tap the drive shaft lightly from side to side around the circumference of shaft to loosen the bearing from the housing. If that doesn't work my wife will be away from home most of the day on Wednesday, so I'll heat up the oven and turn on the exhaust fan.

Actually, what I meant was tap on the end of the shaft to push the pinion assembly out.
