Need help with model year and part name

My neighbour is working on a quite-old 3HP motor. The id plate has been removed from the side so we're having trouble identifying the year. Aside from the missing plate, is the model stamped anywhere else? The specific part he's looking for is one of the three dogs (his term) that are under the recoil. I've attached two pic: one of the motor and one showing the missing dog. Any help with model year and part name would be appreciated. Thanks. Richard

looks like an HD25 I would guess 50-53b. Those are called pawls.
