i have a 1991 merc 150 hp xr4 Blackmax. i bought the boat a week ago and it ran great [55 mph]. on day 4 it started acting up. i heard the beep to tell me i needed oil. i put oil in the Lg 3 gal tank started the motor ,took off the cap on Sm oil tank on motor so pressure would fill Sm. tank and bleed the lines then it ran great up and down the river , then i stoped and the warning beeper came back on and wont stop and the mtr. is running bad again but every thing with oil is good. Is there a safety devise to not allow the mtr. to function properly when the beeper sounds or is this two seperate problems ? please someone out there help me. ty Mike.

If it's beeping, something's wrong with the oil delivery. If it sounds a solid tone, something is hot. Run it with either alarm on and you will burn down your power head.

Back then they assumed someone that put a large amount of money in a motor would read the book and heed the alarms, following the simple instructions in the book to prevent damage. Now they shut down the motor to an overfueled, throttle limited limp home state electronically to try to prevent damage.

Hopefully it's as simple as an ignition miss fooling the oil alarm into thinking one of 2 required pulse trains is missing.

hope it helps

ty,it is beeping steady beep beep beep and so on and that means oil problem but all of the oil system is working perfect and oil is getting into motor. i may have an ignition prob which is messing with the perfomance. what do you think;anyone please. ty Mike. also i must mention that when i put the boat in the water and go it takes off good and as soon as i get on plane it shuts off, then its hard to start and only wants to go slow or idle. what is my problem ?

The oil alarm module compares an impulse from the oil pump to an impulse from an ignition coil, any difference in the two and the alarm goes off.

Pull your plugs and look at them, attach a spark tester and check spark.

You may find that cyl 2 or 3, one of the middle cyls, is not firing or firing intermittently, causing the alarm.

Prove it, then prove why, fouled plugs, weak coil, weak ignition module, weak trigger? Any of these occurring on the coil wired into the oil alarm module will cause your alarm.will cause

Blue eyes. I gave up because this guy seems bent on breaking his motor instead of troubleshooting it and fixing it.

BTW, just because you "fixed" your motor by taking off the oiler doesn't make that the best or proper repair for everybody. You seem to be beating the same drum every time you post.

Oil alert beeps could indicate a failing oil system, or just a failing sensor on the oil system, or a problem in the ignition system. Proper diagnostics will quickly pin down the problem and point to a sollution.

hope it helps
