I have an older 5 HP that has been repainted so I can see no model or other numbers. It does have the slow-speed and high-speed knobs so late 1960's? I'm getting gas into carb. but can see no gas after pulling plugs and yanking rope. Pulled carb. and had a handful of red liquid. Old gas or varnish from float? Where can I find a manual or a carb. rebuild kit? Many thanx in advance

If your motor is a full gear shift and water cooled it is most likely late 50s early 60s built by the Gale devision of OMC and shares many parts with the very similar E/J motors of that era.Gale stopped production after 63.
The service manual for E/J 5.5 motors from that time will serve you well.
some parts are available right here under the E/J application.
Carb kit 18-7043 (54-67) E/J 5.5 ,needle and seat 18-7094
you should change the impeller.18-3001 54-64 E/J 5.5.impeller plate 18-3102
If the coils haven't been changed they will be bad 18-5181 5.5,6 (50-76)
These are Sierra numbers but should work right here or at NAPA auto parts.Though as I've said many times some NAPA branches don't know about their 600 page Marine products catalog.
