Hi Guys

I am looking for a replacement outdrive for a Merc 302 197?
am I safe to assume that it is a alpha one ?
If yes do you know where I can find one ?
are there any other options that would bolt right on ?

I kinda cracked the lower unit last fall

That is an MC-1 (Mercruiser 1 drive), and quite an early one at that, about 1970-1974 ish.... An Alpha One will bolt straight onto the bell housing with no problem.... Best option is to get a nice fresh new one, with 3 year warranty, from iBoats store (It's an SEI drive)....

Chris.......

Here is an bit of an explanation of Models, years and serial number. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=532248&p=3632183&viewfull=1#post3632183
Also have a look in the Adults Only section and you'll find a nice little sheet on how to identify the various models... (DON'T bother with the 'Mercstuff' site, the writer doesn't know his a.. from his elbow)

Ayuh,... You have an MC-1 drive....

'n, Yes, an Alpha 1 will bolt right on, 'n run just Fine....

Bein' a V8, you want the 1.5:1 ratio...

I like those SEI drives, had 2 issues in all the years and they warrantied them with no questions asked. Good company to deal with.

Anything up to 1990 will do the job... As Bond-o said, make sure it's 1.5:1.
